MATIS ABARBANEL

In the not-too-distant past, Matis was living what most people would consider a dream life. He was a partner of a multi-million dollar law firm, living in a 31st floor oceanfront  condo, and driving around in Porsche’s, Ferrari’s and chauffeured stretch limousines to VIP clubs and 5 star restaurants. He partied in high roller hotel suites across the world, mansions and on yachts with the likes of P Diddy, Madonna, and Hugh Hefner. To see a short before and after video clip of Matis’s journey click here.

Despite his success, Matis grew restless of a life devoid of any real meaning and began searching for truth and a deeper reality.  Some soul searching led him to take a hiatus from the practice of law, become a stand-up comedian, and then backpack around the world longing to quench the thirst of his soul. His journey eventually led him to Israel where he settled and lived for four years, reconnecting with his Jewish roots, attending Yeshiva, getting married, and spending his time studying Torah and helping those less fortunate.

In 2008, Matis returned to his hometown of South Florida as an observant Jew armed with a new life mission of making the world a better place and a dwelling for G-d. Upon witnessing the financial meltdown and foreclosure crisis that was plaguing his hometown community, he co-founded a law firm called Loan Lawyers– focusing on helping and fighting for the rights of people facing foreclosure and burdening debt.

Matis soon realized the overwhelming need in the community for Jewish youth & young adults facing the challenges of transitioning into adulthood while searching for identity and purpose in a world of confusion. He began having Shabbat meals, Torah classes and Farbrengens (warm & inspiring communal gatherings) in his home.   What started with just a few people, soon blossomed into weekly gatherings of 50 – 60 Jewish youth thirsty for warmth, sincerity, and meaningful guidance that laid the foundation for what The Center is today.

After experiencing a hedonistic lifestyle of pleasure and materialism, and then choosing to live as an observant Jew, our founding director offers a unique perspective on life for the Jewish youth and young adults in our community searching for true meaning and purpose.

In addition to dedicating his time to The Center and running his busy law practice, Matis loves to spend as much time as possible with his wife and two amazing kids having fun, seeking out adventure and travelling.  He also loves biking, swimming, and hiking.

RABBI AVREMEL RIMLER

Rabbi Avrohom Rimler was born and raised in Melbourne, Australia. As a teenager and young adult, he traveled around the world to help grow Jewish communities abroad. He worked in New Zealand, South Africa and more recently in a college town in North New York.
Avrohom enjoys playing sports, loves nature and camping, drumming, singing and learning. He is passionate and energetic and enjoys sharing the joy of life with others.
Together with his wife Ayelet and their children Moussia and Mendel, they moved to Miami in September 2018 to focus on his next endeavor: growing and expanding the reach of The Center.  Avrohom will be learning with others and helping the center grow by focusing on the next generation of Jewish teens.

He says, “The Center successfully creates an environment where guys can hang out in a comfortable setting, being who they are without being judged. No matter who or what you are, you are welcome. We don’t judge by family, friends, educators or community members.”

RABBI DOV MOSHE

Dov Moshe grew up in Miami, Florida with minimal exposure Torah, and no knowledge of true Yiddishkeit, save for rare occasions when he would see a picture or hear a story about his family roots in the shtetl. As a young adult, Dov Moshe adopted a life of vivid colors as a biker, South Beach nightclub bouncer and South Beach tattoo artist. His sense of service prompted him to become a Deputy Sheriff serving in the capacity of a corrections officer, patrolman and Street Gang Unit operative. And then, with the help of Hashem, he found his true path, the path of Torah. Dov Moshe earned Semicha Yoreh Yoreh from Rov Yaakov Goldstein (Machon Lehora’ah Hilchasa Kerav, HSSP, Tfas) and chose to continue upon a new path of service.

“Throughout the duration of my Law Enforcement career, whether it was in a jail or on the streets I met many people labeled as criminals, quite often I realized most of these people were just people, they have families, friends, good times and not so good times. The one thing they all have in common is they made poor choices in life and the repercussions of these choices brought them to their current situations.”

Dov Moshe now enjoys what he calls, “the true life; the Torah life.” He dedicates many hours daily to learning, davening, and trying to touch as many souls as possible.

“With gratitude to Hashem, my past life experiences have given me the ability and confidence to share, inspire and touch the lives of people from a variety of diverse backgrounds.”

Dov Moshe enjoys learning and teaching Torah especially Halacha and Chassidus with an emphasis on practical application and ramifications relevant in daily life, working with his hands whether its making Tzitzit or building, fixing, or improving something, weight training, spending time with his family and his dog Bosco.

“Everything that happens to us and the world around us is Hoshgota Protis (Divine providence), yet Hashem continually empowers each of us with the ability to make choices, these choices have an immediate unseen ripple effect on us and the world at large. Regardless of one’s past actions each person is divinely created with a unique holy purpose and CAN succeed in improving themselves and the entire world thus fulfilling the purpose of their individual creation. Just think if each of us had the opportunity as a young adult to have genuine spiritual mentors with diverse backgrounds to assist us in our growth and life path…. Look no more, for young men and women in South Florida the Center is here with you to assist your growth in a warm, nonjudgmental way.”
